Report on Request for Access Ready Inc Board of Directors Action by 12-30-2018
Issued on 12-18-2018
Honorable members of the Access Ready Inc. Board of Directors,
Under the bylaws Article VII Section 9 as Chair I am requesting that you vote on the following agenda electronically
A simple response to the Chair-CEO by email will be registered by the Chair-CEO and then filed with the corporate Secretary.
A notice of this action will then be placed on the Consent Agenda and included in the Board package for the next formal meeting.
Your vote in this format does have the force and effect of an action in a formal board meeting. The Consent Agenda vote is a formality intended to give the Board a second look at actions taken electronically. Please reply to all when responding.
The voting on this agenda will be open until 5 pm on 12-30-2018
A failure to respond will automatically register as an affirmative or yes vote on the agenda.
1. The Chair-CEO requests approval of the following policy to be placed prominently on accessready.org. I believe this policy statement is necessary to separate Access Ready from those organizations and law firms in the market who have used the Americans with disabilities Act and other such civil rights laws to carry out a series of “drive by” lawsuits that have damaged legitimate advocacy efforts. This does not weaken Access Ready, but rather strengthens it as an advocacy and educational organization. It will also help reduce the fears of potential sponsors and Authorized Resources who do not want to be associated with an organization that is perceived to be filing legal actions all over the place.
Policy One a prohibition on legal action
Access Ready Inc. is a nonprofit cross disability advocacy organization promoting a policy of inclusion and accessibility across information technology through education and best practices. It shall be Policy One of Access Ready Inc. never to be a plaintiff in and/or financially support any legal action or lawsuit related to the accessibility or inaccessibility of any information technology software, hardware or service. Further Access Ready Inc. shall make the results of its technical findings, policy discussions and advocacy efforts available to the public through accessready.org, its social media stream and other public relations efforts. The Board of Directors of Access Ready has deemed inaccessible information technology to be a clear, growing and present danger to the civic, economic and social welfare of people with disabilities and we would welcome your support.
